Lolita Confidence

One thing that every lolita suffers from is their confidence. Those awkward glares, laughs and giggles, photographs and little kids staring at you for ages - this is all part of the Loli Life and if you don't feel up-to it then maybe you should rethink being a Lolita.

A little self-pride goes a long way and as long as you feel OK - or better, happy - in what you wear, then why should anybody else give a hoot? One way to stop feeling down is to smile a lot - unless you are erololi... If people stop and stare, just smile and wave! Being friendly was never hard, and so when you are a lolita, being more friendly will make you *friends*, not enemies. Another top-tip is when a little kid (or anyone for that matter) asks you something about your attire, don't go in a fit of rage. Smile at them and say it's just a style from Japan that stands for modesty in an ever-changing and less-modest world. Just make sure you know about loli if you want to give them a lecture. If a kid asks you (and they probably are really young like 4-7) then you may want to tell their parents instead. Don't mind people asking - this style may seem a little odd outside of Japan but inside of our Lolita groups, it's normal.

Normal... there's a funny word. Normal. Nobody is able to define it as one thing. Though many people have different meanings, the word never stops changing. For example, for me, it is normal to dress Lolita and speak Japanese to everyone I see. This isn't so normal for everyone and they may think that sitting upside-down whilst eating pasta on the top of a roof is normal - but I don't and not everyone does. Don't be put off if people call you not-normal - normal means something different to us all. Try not to feel disheartened - Lolita is a beautiful and elegant style that is very pretty and you should be proud that you are happy enough with yourself that you are able to say "I'm not mainstream" and wear this style. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. :)

Lots of English Lolita Love, Kurisuchi xx
